Living Wage Campaign

A full-time job should keep you out of poverty–not in it.

Week of Action

To support the start of this statewide campaign, union members are organizing several events at universities around the state. If you would like to be involved, you can reach out to ucwms@ucw-cwa.org

Starkville: On Valentine’s Day we will 💗show campus workers some love💗. MSU will have tabling in the Drill Field from 10am-2pm. We’ll have candy, games to play, a petition to sign, and a t-shirt raffle. And of course, we’ll be talking to people about why they should join. See you there!

Hattiesburg: UCW-USM will participate in a campus 🚩Fair Pay Rally🚩 organized by a coalition of faculty and staff organizations at noon on Thursday, February 15 at 12:15. The location is Shoemaker Square, the free speech zone at the center of campus. While there is no formal program (i.e., speeches) due to the restriction on sound amplifying equipment, signage and tabling, information distribution, and chanting by participants is expected. Several elected officials, including the mayor and members of the legislature, have been invited to attend. UCW plans to table, distribute information, collect additional signatures on our Living Wage petition, and prospect for new members. All members are welcome to grab a t-shirt to wear at the rally! If you’d like to pick it up the the day before, meet Andrew and Emilee at 4pm at LA 313.

Oxford: On Thursday, February 15th, UCW members will be tabling in front of the student union from 10-2 and inviting the campus community to sign our Living Wage petition! Additionally, we’ll be shepherding people to the library to 👀 view the salary books 👀. Let’s collectively educate ourselves about the serious wage gaps in our community and commit to building a serious campaign for change. Come say hi and bring a coworker!
